English Version:

AST2014-Fans-500The French team is participating for the 22nd time in the AST tournament which finally was won in 2006. Regularly they mustered up strong teams in Mannheim, but till 2006 it was “only” sufficient for the second place in 1996 and for the third place in 1967 such as in 1989. The past three tournaments France finished only 11th, 8th and 9th. Almost every time the French had later NBA players in the roster: Jerome Moiso, who played for Boston, Charlotte, New Orleans, Toronto, New Jersey, and Cleveland, whirled beyond the baskets in 1996. In 1998 a very young player named Tony Parker, was leading the French game. At the AST 2000 there were even two players with Boris Diaw and Ronny Turiaf who once chased after the basket for France and who then earned their money in the American professional league. In 2002 Center Johan Petro participated, who celebrated his NBA debut with the Seattle Supersonics in 2005. Not to forget Nicolas Batum in 2006, who is currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA, and Evan Fournier 2010, Orlando Magic.

The French always counted to one of the best European teams in this age group. The European Championships title in 2006, 2000 and 1992 as well as the second place at the European Championships in 2009, 1996 and in 1964 underline this statement. At the U17 World Championship 2014 France got the 8th place while the U16 boys made place 5 at the European Championship 2015 and the U18 boys finished 6th at the Europea Championships 2015.

2010 was the best and most successful AST for German national teams in history. The U18 team reached the final and finished second in the tournament, while the U17 team finished third. A sensational success for both teams. Even in 2012 the German team could inspire the fans in Mannheim making the semi final and finally coming in strong 4th place. At last time´s tournament former head coach Alan Ibrahimagic led his team to place 7. In this year’s team there are some promising players which can make the step into the Beko BBL or the A national team. The AST 2016 is the best diveboard for that goal. Unfortunately the team has to play without injured forward Isaiah Hartenstein.

Internationally the DBB team has been waiting for bigger successes in this age group for more than twentyfive years now. The fourth place in an U18 championship in 1986 was the best result until now. In 1984 and 1982 the fifth place was reached. German junior teams participated two times in a World Championship, both times with a huge success. The fifth place in 1983 was followed by a fourth in 1987. At the 2007 European championship for U18 men in Spain Germany made the 9th place. At the European Championship 2015 in Greece the German U18 boys reached the quarter finals and took an eighth place. So it is time for the German U18 boys to have international success. Why not start at the AST 2014?
