AST 2014 Japan

„Yoku irasshaimashita!“ Was auf japanisch so viel heißt wie „Herzlich Willkommen!“. Mit großer Freude haben die AST-Verantwortlichen die zweite Turnierteilnahme der Japaner registriert, die neben China für eine große asiatische Präsenz beim diesjährigen Turnier sorgen.

Erwarten darf man von Japan den typischen Spielstil der Mannschaften aus Asien: viel Tempo, enorme Wurfsicherheit aus der Distanz, aber körperliche Nachteile und dadurch Schwächen beim Rebound. Beim Turnier 2010 kamen die Japaner mit einer durchaus attraktiven Spielweise auf den 14. Platz. Bei der FIBA Asia U18-Meisterschaft 2012 in der Mongolei kam Japan auf einen guten 4. Platz, das U16-Team beendete die FIBA Asia Meisterschaft 2013 im Iran sogar auf Platz 3 . Das Mannheimer Publikum darf gespannt sein, wie sich Japan beim AST 2014 schlägt.

„Yoku irasshaimashita!“ Which means as much as „Welcome“ in Japanese! It´s a big pleasure for the responsibles of the Albert Schweitzer Tournament to hear about the second participation of Japan. This signifies the big presence of Asia at this year´s tournament.

One can expect from Japan the typical style of Asian teams: high speed, high precision of the outside shooters, but physical disadvantages and with that a weakness in rebounding. At the tournament 2010 Japan finished with a quite attractive style 14th.  At the FIBA Asia U18 Championship 2012 in Mongolia Japan came in on 4th place while the U16 boys made place 3 at the FIBA Asia Championship 2013 in Iran. The audience in Mannheim can be very expectant how Japan will compete at the AST 2014.
