Supercup: Croatia with final win over Germany

Macedonia reach third place - German team again with win and loss - Femerling returned to the court

At the Supercup in Bamberg the German National Team lost an exciting final to Croatia (65:73 - 17:19, 12:22, 20:23, 16:9). Dirk Bauermann's team fought back in the final quarter to cut a 19-point deficit but the Croatian team was too clever for the German youngsters. Thus, Germany finished the Supercup on the second place while Macedonia won over Eurobasket host Poland with a terrific comeback in the fourth quarter (95:88 - 15:26, 21:25, 30:21, 29:16) to reach the third spot.

The Basketball fans in Bamberg enjoyed four high class games. On the first day, Germany finsihed strong beating Macedonia 78:77 (25:25, 15:23, 22:15, 16:14). The German team was led by Heiko Schaffartzik and Robin Benzing with 13 points each. Jan-Hendrik Jagla added eleven points. Bauermann's squad played a tremendous third quarter which tied the game again. In the end, the Schaffartzik and Tim Ohlbrecht kept their nerves straight on the free throw line and secured the win for the German team.

Germany thus played Croatia for the final fight at the Supercup the next day (as Croatia beat Poland 81:74 (19:22, 23:12, 23:25, 16:15).

In the finale, German international Patrick Femerling returned to the court and put the first German points on the board. Despite Femerlings comeback, the German defense struggled with the Croatian team that executed very well. For Germany, Yassin Idbihi (14 points) as well as Tim Ohlbracht (12) and Jan-Hendrik Jagla (10) performed well.

"I am very proud of the intensity and the spirit our team showed at the Supercup. There is still things to work on but working with this teamis a lot of fun", German Head Coach Dirk Bauermann (picture) said.
